The artists

ARCHIE ROACH
In 1988 much of Australia was celebrating two hundred years of white settlement but a young Archie Roach was expressing in song what many who weren't celebrating were feeling.
For many indigenous people there was anger, despair, disadvantage, land rights battles and deaths in custody. Archie Roach dealt with this by writing songs about his own experiences and feelings and then performing these songs to whomever would listen.
Twenty one years later in a special tour, Archie will present a collection of these songs and launch his new album Music Deli Presents Archie Roach -1988 which feature some of the first ever recordings by a young Archie Roach.

RORY ELLIS
“When the big fella opens up his chest and lets fly with that lusty, rumbling voice, even then it's as if he's pulling back on the reins in fear of what might happen to innocent bystanders - it's that potent. Jeff Glorified The Melbourne Age
Rory has spent many years touring locally and internationally taking inspiration from suburban street culture, some of the seedier Melbourne pubs he has worked in, not just as a performer, regular glimpses of the Melbourne underworld, people he’s loved, lost, and from his own eventful life, rich in contrast. Audiences at Rory’s numerous festival appearances and more intimate performances have been captivated by his powerful vocal command and subtle acoustic instrumentation that bring the vivid stories to life.

TONCHI
'Tonchi McIntosh grew up in Bourke and has Mexican blood running through his veins on his Mother's side. He sings, his voice full of warmth and emotion, of Australia with a clear-sighted passion for the land and its traditional owners, moving from acoustic folk/rock to electric and touches of reggae and country. This mixture of musical forms enfolds his lyricism, and one of his strengths is the meshing of imagery, be it allegorical or as raw and rich as the red earth of the outback" Warwick McFadyen
